Why does a teacher or student have an asterisk by their name when I search for their calendar

If a teacher or student has an asterisk by their name their calendar is set to private. Sometimes this is done by the Google Domain administrator for your organization (typically the case if you can't see anyone's calendar). To change this, your Google Domain Administrator can go to Apps> Google Workspace > Settings for Calendar > Sharing Settings and under "Internal sharing options for primary calendars" set globally for everyone to "Only show free and busy":

If you find that only a few people have not shared their calendar, they may adjust this individually:

1. Click the three dots by their main calendar. Click Settings and Sharing
Scroll down, under Access Permissions for Events section:
They should check the box by "Make Available for" and they can pick the privacy - either see all details or, probably the most popular, "see only free/busy (hide details). This will give you this scenario: SchoolCal classes will show as, for example, teaching Algebra, but all other events will just show free or busy.
